25 years of ADVENTURES and counting…

Everything is possible. Just breathe, and take that chance.

Hi, I’m Juan — it’s great to meet you.

Welcome to AntiGravity Training: a home for those chasing adventure through movement, travel, storytelling, and any pursuit that brings creative life experiences into focus.

I’ve been a climber in the Pacific Northwest for over 20 years. What started as an obsession became a way of life — one that’s given me a deep sense of belonging within Portland’s climbing community. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of being involved in nearly every part of the sport: launching gyms with friends, setting routes, partnering with mountaineering organizations to teach fundamentals, and coaching climbers of all levels one-on-one. For a time, I even ran a gear shop fueled by a passion for helping others take their first steps into climbing.

In recent years, I’ve also stepped into the world of amateur boxing — first as a competitor, and now as a coach. What drew me in was the precision, the mental challenge, and the way boxing (like climbing) demands full presence. Today, I work with boxers at all levels to build sharp technique, strong fundamentals, and confidence in and out of the ring.

What was once AntiGravity Equipment has evolved into something broader — which is why the name needed to grow with it.

During the 2020 pandemic, when climbing gyms and state parks shut down, I found myself branching into other forms of creative expression, searching for ways to stay inspired during a time of massive uncertainty.

This site is the result of that evolution.

My hope is that what you find here helps you feel inspired, informed, and more prepared to seek your own adventures. And if you think we might work well together — I’d be honored to contribute to your journey.

Thanks for being here.

My hope is that the content that you find on this site will inspire you and prepare you to seek out your own adventures. If you feel there is a place for us to work together, please reach out. It would be a real honor to contribute to your vision.

Thank you

Juan is a truly amazing human who gives so much to our local climbing community.

AnnMarie Alden Caplan

I can’t speak highly enough for Juan and AntiGravity Training. The rapid progress I made in my climbing through our work together has been amazing. I have a much better grasp of how to train both physically and mentally as a climber now. Plus Juan is an awesome human and community member, and a lot of fun to hang out with.

Juan doesn’t just coach your technique—he coaches your mindset. He helps you break through mental blocks during cruxes and teaches you how to keep going, even when you’re fatigued. With his support, I’ve grown so much in both skill and confidence.

Greg

I want a coach to tell me what I’m doing wrong, not just be a cheerleader. Juan has a knack for providing honest feedback in a warm and positive way. That’s gold.

Maureen O'Hagan

I really enjoyed how calm and supportive Juan is. He never made me feel rushed or judged, and always knew exactly how to push me just enough. It made training feel safe, fun, and motivating all at once.

Anibal Rocheta

Because of Juan’s experience, knowledge and perceptiveness, training with him will help you with your known areas for growth and potentially uncover new opportunities. Working with someone who listens and observes well and is able to bring vast knowledge and understanding to creating a training program is a valuable investment.

My boxing skills have improved so much in the last year. When I dislocated my shoulder Juan was willing to work with me focusing on skills that did not require me to use my shoulder. Now that I can use it again, I feel so much stronger and more confident.

Samantha Rogers

Juan is a rarity as a coach! He knew of my health limitations & yet knew exactly what I needed to become more than I ever thought possible. He is incredibly skilled and gifted in not just the physical & technical, but in mindset and mind body connection.
